Failed to set proper user name ('domain\username') for the connection
this error message:
Failed to set proper user name ('domain\username') for the connection
. I have removed the db_id from the Trace table. Also, all the Logins/ Users
are set to the proper default DB. So Im really confused as to why I would be
getting this? Any ideas?
TIA, ChrisRHi
Have you got the same db_id for the database(s) on the production and
development servers? You may want to restore master! Alternatively try to
save the trace as a SQL File and then run that, you should not get this
problem and it will be easier to debug any problems that you do get.

removing the db_id... therefore not requiring the restore of Master.

trace. Double check to make sure all the users captured in
the trace have a default database of the target database.
The commands should then be executed in the default database
so the database id isn't an issue.

Failed to schedule DTS in SQL 2005
Hello,
I am trying to to schedule DTS Package but this message appear .
Message
The job failed. The Job was invoked by User sa. The last step to run was step 1 (1). and this
Message
Executed as user: Computer name\SYSTEM. The package execution failed. The step failed
so how I can schedule DTS Package in sql 2005 .
Do you have logging enabled for this package? if enabled check the log file it should have more detailed information on the error.
The error you have posted is a very generic error from the job agent, and it does not give any information.
Thanks
|||Sounds like you might have some issues with the account settings. See the following thread for tips on setting up proxies / credentials / jobs etc.
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1955723&SiteID=1
|||Thanks, all
But still the same problem even I did all thing to solve but still can't schedule DTS, but when I see th proparites of the
SQL Server Agent-->Connection and found the sql server connection grayed out and can't select or change it . so may be this is the problem but how to run the agent under sa account .
|||Assuming you are talking about the connection infromation on the left hand side of the job properties screen, that connection information is how you are currently connected to the sql server. You would need to look at the steps tab and click edit on the step associated with the package you are trying to run. At the top of this screen there will be a place for the step name (i.e. run package x), the type (sql server integration services package) and the run as. You would select the correct proxy name from the run as drop down that ties to your sa account...

Thanks very much for you reply but I still can't schedule the DTS even though when I execute the dts it's work fine and I did all thing what said here http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/Schedule__Run__SSIS__DTS.asp

I have a couple of questions.
1) When you performed the upgrade from SP3, did you get any errors?
2) Does the file msxmlsql.dll exist in the X:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\80\Shared directory (replace X with whatever drive you installed Sql
Server on)?

Failed to generate a user instance SQL Server Express 2005
Hello,
I get the following message after updating to sql server express 2005 advanced.
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
I noticed that in my C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Template Data I have not databases? How do I get them back?
I also had to add back the aspnet to the permissions and the network and network service to the app_data folder.
Can any one help?
Thanks
Tom
Moving this thread over to the SQL Express forum.

|||With User Instances the database files are not created in the old data directories, they are normally installed in the main project output directories for the project. In ASP.Net this is normally the ASP_Data directory. When the application starts it will automaticle attach the database to the database engine and set the permissions.
With your problem have you tried a complete rebuild of the application, Did it work befor you upgraded to Express Advanced. Also you might want to try opening up the file and attaching it to the database engine using the management studio just to make sure it is working fine, you can then detach it and try the application again.
|||Hi Tom,
Did you ever resolve this issue?
You definitely need the databases located in Template Data in order for User Instances to work. If you didn't get this resolved, I would suggest trying to re-run the install. Usually the only reason an installation results in those files going missing is that some SQL process was running at the time of the installation.
If you haven't tried it yet. I'd also recomend moving to SQL SP1 which you can download from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/.

Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B
When and why does this error message appear..
Error 1 Error loading MasterPackage.dtsx: Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available.
are you using package configurations? if so , how are they being stored (db, XML file ect.)
what is your ProtectionLevel set to on your package properties?
how is the package being run? (debug, SqlAgent, execcute w/o debug , command line ect.)
|||I have a master package which is calling other packages...I just opened to set some package configuration but did not set and then it's coming out with this message when i try to open my master package but is running fine even if comes out with this message...
|||what is the ProtectionLevel property set to on the children and parent? Right click properties -> ProtectionLevel)
it appears that when you are opening the package it cannot decrypt the sensitive information.
This often occurs when developing on one box and promoting to another.
|||my protection leve is set to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey on both parent and child.
|||As Ryan wrote, this error may occur when moving from one box to another - this protection level uses Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI), which automatically encrypts secrets with user key, but is limited in that it obviously allows only original user to decrypt secrets, and (less known) it only works on original computer only, unless you are using Roadmin Profile. If you need to move packages to other computers, or execute them under different user account - use other protection levels. See Books Online for details.

OK, let me explain it to you. Prior SQL Server 2005, there have been no ways to control the password complexity or behaviour in SQL Server, which means that you could use a password like "aaa" or 123" or just a blank one. The options that are known from the Windows Domain like "Enforce password complexity" which only lets you create a password which is complex enough (containing enough characters / numbers / special characters) didn′t exists. Also the option "User must change password upon first connection" didn′t exists. With SQL Server 2005 these options have become available also for SQL Server passwords / users, but... you need to have Windows 2003 to enforce those rules as they are controlled by a group policy of Windows 2003. Any machine prior to WIndows 2003 won′t know the rules, therefore SQL Server thros an error, stating that these options are not available on the current platform SQL Server is installed on.
HTH, Jens SUessmeyer.

If you really need to create this user of just a matter of study, what you could do is to select the SQL Server authentication and uncheck the "Enforce password policy". This way you will not get the error message, but remember that this is not a correct way to go.

sqlFailed to create Database
I am trying to create a blank/sample database on Dynamics POS with SQl Server Express. And a error message is read:
Error to create blank/sample database
Error details: failed to create windows users/groups or add the sql loggins
Do you have any idea why is this error message happening, or what can I do to fix it?
What OS did you use to install the point of sale system? And did your Express comes with Management Studio?|||The operating system I use is Windows XP sp2
No , the Express came only with the server configuration Manager, the server error and usage reporting and the server surface area configuration.
|||OS(operating system), Tell the person Suface area configuration and configuration Manager without Management Studio is too limiting because I have talked to another Dynamics user with Express with everything. The reason is in Management Studio you can right click and create a database, if you make a mistake delete it and start new one. Hope this helps.|||Thanks, but it didn′t work.
I installed it, and you′re right is easir to manage, even though the database I created appears at the Management studio, the POS keeps on telling failed to create XXX Database, ande Error details described before.
|||if there is no other error description in the installed of the POS application you will either have to use a SQL profiler (If you have another version of SQL Server that comes with SQL Profiler) or contact the vendor of the POS installation to investigate the problem or tell you where to find more detailed information about the error message (They may trace some error information to a trace source like a file)

|||There are steps you are missing in Dynamics, I have found a thread you can post on at the Dynamics forums. It is not a SQL Server issue but Dynamics configuration issue because POS needs to be added to the new database you have created.

Failed to connect to sql server problem - a strange one!

After I received the error message, mgmt studio still lets me access the database make changes, but I cannot connect via my application. Any ideas? Thanks!
Hi,are you using connection pooling ? Seems that your application does not release the connection after using them. You should consider your code regarding this. If you are not sure who is connected to your computer you should consider querying the procedure sp_who.

sqlFailed to call SSIS package from ASPX C# Web Page
Hi, Everyone:
I am getting the following error message when I try to execute a SSIS package from an asp.net page written in C# 2.0. What I am trying to do is basically just click on a button in the web page and it will execute the package. The code to execute the package is pretty simple. I pass the path of the DTS package stored in the local folder. This works fine in the machine where SQL2005 is installed locally. But it fail when I have a seperate Web Server and SQL Server. Any ideas? Do I have to install SSIS or SQL2005 on a web server as well?
Thanks

Are you able to access http://localhost/reportserver from IE? Are you able to access any web pages from IE?|||Thank you for your reply.
The first answer is no, I cannot access http://localhost/reportserver from IE(The instance of SQL server 2005 is "SQL2005".)
The second answer is yes, I can access IIS' default web page and the other web pages.
|||Anybody can help, please?|||I think you need to figure out what are the required ACLs. Maybe you can start by giving everybody full access. If that works start reducing the permissions.
BTW, I thought the error message would give you more details about what ACLs are missing, but I could be wrong.
